Awareness Events

Anteaters Against Autoimmunity started last year with the first annual Fashion for Lupus and other autoimmune diseases show. We hope that this annual fall event remains to serve as our main means of fundraising and bringing awareness to a large community in one October night!

AAA is also hoping to add the following events to its Agenda:

  1. Public education workshops conducted by our members, supervised by a physician or a researcher, for anyone in the community; Tandis is currently working with Dr. Margarita Pereyda, the Medical Director at the SOS free clinic in Costa Mesa, to put on a workshop for the patients, served by SOS, who suffer from these diseases and their families.
  2. Faculty lectures on cutting research right here at UCI: once a quarter, during meeting of week 3. Good opportunity to learn more and have a closer interaction with the professors and/or researchers.
  3. Pannels discussion: once a year. People who suffer from any autoimmune diseases come and speak to us about their experiences. This would open to all of the community members (not restricted to UCI students)
  4. Service Mixer- PB&J mingling nights: once a quarter, Saturday of week 8, 1:30-3:30. This is for the members to get to know each other a little better and learn to work with each other as a team. Also, we hope to help out the Orange County population of uninsured people by preparing food and donating it to SOS free clinic. These donations are our way of thanking SOS free clinic for serving patients with autoimmune diseases.
  5. Pizza Brownie Movie Night- once a quarter on Friday night of week 2, 7 o'clock. Movies, pizza, and gluten-free-brownie-goodness.
At ALL meetings will be informational materials about autoimmune diseases.

If you have any more ideas for events that we should do or would like to help us organize any of these events, please contact Tandis Soltani at lupus.fighter@yahoo.com.
